Field Ministries Representative / Flagstaff, Arizona

What is unique to your role at The Friends of Israel?

I work in a tourist hub/ski town/college town, so I get to engage with Jewish visitors from all over the world—from Crown Heights to Sao Paolo to Tsfat to Sydney! My role not only utilizes many of my skills but many of my hobbies as well, including kosher cooking, gardening, and playing the lyre.

What inspires you most to do what you do for FOI?

After my first visit to Israel in 2007, I waited for the excitement to wear off, but it never did. In fact, not only did my love for Israel and the Jewish people grow, it began to burden me overwhelmingly because of their need for the Savior who loves them and is their longed-for Messiah. FOI and those who support this gospel ministry are some of the greatest blessings in my life for allowing me to share Jesus with these wonderful people with more and more of my time.

What is one bit of wisdom you have for those who want to share the love of the Messiah with others?

Listen. There are many ways to tell someone the gospel story, but first, you have to understand who they are and what they are searching for in life. Listen and learn about people and understand whether they're looking for joy, peace, comfort, hope, or something else so that you can present Jesus as who He is: exactly that—everything they are searching for.

What Scripture compels you the most to do what you do?

“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:1–2). Not only is Christ beckoning us to run with endurance, but the great crowd is watching! Surely Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Rebecca, Jacob, Rachel, and Leah cheer when their children recognize the Messiah and when all nations worship our Savior together!

Who is the most influential person in your spiritual life?

C. S. Lewis had a very profound impact on my life when I doubted God's goodness. His redemption from a state of anger toward his Creator mirrored my own testimony and gave me guidance in many ways.
