Nathan & Laura Montgomery (California)

Field Ministries Representative / Los Angeles, California

What is unique to your role at The Friends of Israel?

We do campus ministry at UCLA, using a table and literature to draw those students and visitors who are willing to talk about spiritual things.

We have relationships through our local Chabad synagogue, where we have participated in over 15 class series with the Jewish Learning exchange.

We lead the ORIGINS volunteer program in Israel, serving several weeks each summer with a local congregation and at the Kaplan Medical Center in Rehovot.

What inspires you most to do what you do for FOI?

Many years before the Lord Jesus called us to this ministry, He had put a desire in our heart, to serve and minister in some way, somewhere. When we went to Israel in 2007, we recognized that God's providence was at work to allow us to go and see the land and people. It was on this trip that the Lord broke our hearts for the lost sheep of Israel, and called us to ministry with the Friends of Israel.

What is one bit of wisdom you have for those who want to share the love of the Messiah with others?

Be patient, pray, trust the Lord, and “Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one” (Colossians 4:5–6).

What Scripture compels you the most to do what you do?

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:8–10).

Who is the most influential person in your spiritual life? What books have you read (other than the Bible) that have impacted your spiritual life most?

My dad, who is a pastor. And my wife, who has high goals for me.

Biblical Doctrine: a Systematic Summary of Bible Truth by John MacArthur
