What is unique to your role at The Friends of Israel?
My wife and I have been ministering to Jewish people in Israel through online language exchange for years. Through consistent one-on-one conversations and multiple trips to Israel, we’ve developed deep, lasting friendships with Jewish individuals from all walks of life - secular, Orthodox, Conservative, Reform - you name it. These friendships have opened doors for us to share our faith, bear witness to the love of the Messiah, pray with and for our friends, offer comfort in times of need, and answer thoughtful questions about the Christian faith.
More recently, we’ve also begun reaching out to the local Jewish community in the San Francisco Bay Area by participating in synagogue events, volunteering at Jewish organizations, and engaging through community centers. Our hope is to build genuine relationships with local Jewish friends just as we have with those in Israel - through love, respect, and open-hearted conversations about faith.
As a Chinese pastor, I also see a unique opportunity to encourage Chinese churches to develop a biblical love for Israel and the Jewish people. I seek to equip and inspire fellow Chinese believers to participate in Jewish ministry and recognize its vital role in God's redemptive plan.
What inspires you most to do what you do for FOI?
We’re deeply inspired by the opportunity to serve alongside like-minded believers at FOI who love God and share His heart for the Jewish people. Since the Jewish people are God’s chosen people, and He loves them with an everlasting love, we, as recipients of His grace through the Jewish Messiah, Jesus, are called to love them and stand with Israel.
It was through faithful Jewish disciples that the gospel was first brought to the nations. Now, we believe it is time for the gospel to return to the Jewish people in love, humility, and truth. Being part of that redemptive movement - honoring God's covenant, proclaiming His promises, and reflecting His love to the people of Israel - compels us daily.
What is one bit of wisdom you have for those who want to share the love of the Messiah with others?
Always share with love, respect, and humility, and let the Holy Spirit lead. Evangelism isn’t about proving a point or winning an argument; it’s about building genuine relationships and making space for meaningful conversations. Listen more. Speak less. Be patient. Often, your quiet faithfulness, your love in action, and the way you live open hearts to the gospel long before you ever say a word.
What Scripture compels you the most to do what you do?
Jeremiah 31:3 deeply stirs my heart: “The Lord appeared to him from far away. I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore, I have continued my faithfulness to you.” This verse reminds me that God’s love for Israel is eternal, and His faithfulness never wavers. This Scripture anchors me in a world that often forgets or misunderstands God’s everlasting covenant with His chosen people. I’m humbled and honored to play even a tiny part in His redemptive plan for the Jewish people by helping them see the love of their Messiah, who has never stopped pursuing them.
Who is the most influential person in your spiritual life?
One of the most influential people in my spiritual life is my wife, Angie. I’m deeply grateful that God gave us the same calling, allowing us to serve together in Jewish ministry. Angie is far more loving, patient, and compassionate than I am, and she has built deep, meaningful relationships with many of our Jewish friends. Her faith is strong, and her courage in sharing the gospel consistently challenges and inspires me. Her spiritual gifts and unwavering devotion to God encourage me daily. Honestly, I couldn’t do this ministry without her. We are truly a team, and I thank God for that.
What books have you read (other than the Bible) that have impacted your spiritual life most?
Our Father Abraham: Jewish Roots of the Christian Faith by Marvin R. Wilson has profoundly impacted my spiritual life. It deepened my understanding of the Jewish foundations of the Christian faith and gave me a greater appreciation for the richness of the Hebrew Scriptures, culture, and worldview. This book has been essential for my ministry to Jewish people, as it challenges replacement theology and calls believers to approach Jewish ministry with humility, love, and deep respect. It reminds me that our faith is not separate from Israel’s story, but a continuation of it—and that recognizing this truth is essential to building authentic, meaningful relationships with the Jewish community.
